  • The Department of Land Surveying and Geospatial Science (LSGS) is a leading academic organisation for geomatics education and research. The Department focuses on the acquisition, modelling, analysis, and management of spatially referenced data for a wide range of applications in the field of land surveying, geo-information and underground utility surveying. These include the following:
    - geodesy
    - geographic information systems / technologies
    - hydrographic surveying
    - land boundary determination and dispute resolution
    - map-making/cartography
     -monitoring of engineering projects and geological hazards
    - photogrammetry and laser scanning
    - positioning and navigation
    - remote sensing
    - smart cities
    - topographical surveying
    - urban informatics 
    - utility surveying, imaging and diagnosis

 

The Department has a suite of well-equipped laboratories supporting education and research. Students and researchers will be working with these state-of-the-art facilities and internationally renowned teaching/research staff.  Our graduates can apply theories in practice as our programmes are application-oriented. Our research work is of an applied nature and is relevant to industrial, commercial and community needs. Through our research, partnerships and consultancy work with the industry and the Government including our community service work, the Department maintains close relationships with the professions. Our research and courses are therefore oriented towards the needs of Hong Kong and elsewhere.

 

The Department awards the following degrees and qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy/Master of Philosophy
  • Master of Science/Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Informatics and Smart Cities
  • Master of Science/Postgraduate Diploma in Geomatics (GIS or Surveying)
  • Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics
  • Higher Diploma in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics
